Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress, best well-known for her role in the roles of Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. After her parents divorced, she relocated with her mother to Los Angeles. While struggling financially she landed her first role as Rachel's Room's main character the web-based video show Rachel's Room in the year 2001. In the following year, she was awarded an Young Artist Award nomination in 2002 for her performance as the 15 year old murder victim Martha Moxley in the television movie Murder set in Greenwich. In 2004, Grace was cast as Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost in which she acted as a principal actor for the first two seasons winning an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared by the entire cast. The show ended in 2005 and Grace wanted to appear as a film actress, and had starred opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She starred as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken in 2008) as Suburban Girl as well as The Jane Austen Book Club. The actress reprised her character for Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a modern adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was Shannon once more in the show's finale and in two additional episodes. She also was a guest in the sixth episode of Californication. The character she plays is Faith, who is a fan and muse of the stars. Hank Moody as played by David Duchovny falls in love with her. She is part of Gyllenhaal's family, and is the older sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began as a teenager when she appeared in small parts in a few films directed by her father. Also, she worked alongside her brother in 2001's famous movie Donnie Darko. Then she appeared on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (both 2002) and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was nominated to win the Golden Globe Award in both the romantic comedy Sherrybaby (2005) as well as the love story Secretary (2002). Both films were critically acclaimed. In 2006, she appeared in numerous films that were commercially successful, including World Trade Center. However, it was her role as Rachel Dawes that brought her more attention with The Dark Knight (2008). Following her acclaimed performance as a single mother in Crazy Heart (2009), she was awarded the Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. After that she was able to appear in comedy films along with dramas, such as Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) as well as Will Not Back Down (12). The other roles she played were an agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013), a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) a musician in the film Frank (2014) as well as The title role in the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal began her professional career as screenwriter and director in 2021 when she wrote and directed her psychological horror film The Lost Daughter. The film received the award for Best Screenplay in the Venice International Film Festival, and it was nominated by the Academy Award.
